The end of Survivor that I am currently writing.

Quickie update

Been really bad about updating here, and I’m sorry.  Life’s been really busy lately, to the point where I feel stressed and overwhelmed.

Flamebound  is coming along.  It’s in rewrite, over half done.  I’m a bit stuck on this one part, and I want to get UNSTUCK.  Hopefully today at work, if it’s quiet, maybe I can ponder it some more.

Pirouette is officially in edit status.  Global changes only, then another few passes for various things.  I hope to have something significantly done by the end of this year.  So, prolly not the Year of the Agent.  That’s okay.

Survivor endgame is on hold for now.  I’d like to finish it by the end of this year, but we’ll see.  I have alot going on.  Too much I think.  But we’ll see.

I can’t believe how fast this year has gone by!  Seems only yesterday I was making goals for this year.  Now we’re down to less than 90 days.  What the hell?

Update on things

Survivor  is almost finished, and I have almost 40k done in new words.  Pretty darned cool.  It is on hold for a bit while I’m working on Flamebound.  I needed a breather, so this works.  I will be finishing Survivor up by the end of the year for sure, barring any catastrophies.

The shoulder/back is still really bad.  Had an MRI (hello, claustrophobia!) and no evidence of a rotator cuff tear or partial tear, which is good news.  I’ve been diagnosed with burstitis.  I can’t believe how painful it is.  I start P.T. sometime in the next week or so.

I started on Flamebound and am halfway done with the first draft.  It’s doing pretty well.  I’m happy with it so far, despite the Block of Doom last night.  I ended up ripping out 2 scenes that just were’t working and rewriting them.  Hopefully, this new stuff will be better.

Since I’m looking at trying to get this published after an edit/revision, my inner editor has been banging me over the head with a lot of insults and taunting, which is not good for drafting.  I’m very hard on myself anyways, but this has been a bit worse.  But I’m moving forward regardless.  I hope to have it done by the end of this week or the beginning of next week.

Sometime before the end of the year, I’d like to take a crack at Pirouette’s edit/revision.  Which means at minimum, it prolly won’t be done this year.  Which is okay.  I needed the time away, and I believe the story will be better for it.  Maybe 2009 will be the Year of the Agent.  We just never know.

Been also writing poetry for my chapbook, Life as a Moving Target.  I started it in 2004 and it’s basically done, but I wanted to write some new material.  Let’s just say that life has inspired me again.  I’ve shopped it around on and off for the past 4 years with no bites, so my intention is to edit the manuscript again and get it out the door either this year or the beginning of 2009.

The chapbook is about living with fibromyalgia and intractable vertigo.  One of my goals since being diagnosed was to educate the public about both of these conditions.  While fibro is talked about more, there are still people who don’t know it exists, and how it can profoundly affect a person’s life.  And still others don’t believe it even exists, which is so sad.

So that’s what’s going on right now.  Busy, working through this burtitis, trying to get as much done as humanely possible.

Numbers from vacation week: 16k.  Yes, in ONE week.  My personal best ever.  Had a few 3k days that pushed me over the edge there.

Year to date: 187k.  Very happy with those numbers.

Things are good.  I’m pretty happy.  I’m convinced that good things are coming my way.

Getting closer……

I’m up to 35k on the new material on Survivor .  I’m also frightfully close to the end.

And in addition to that, I’ve injured my back and it hurts too much to sit and type.  So production has all but halted.  I did get over 1k done today by some miracle.

Survivor has thrown me a couple of curve balls.  I’m still working it all out.  But it’s promising.  I have high hopes for this book.

The end is well within reach.  Just need to get my back better.

As for the Big Edit/Revision — that’s next.  I’m thinking next month, provided I get Survivor done.  I also have a new project in the works called Flamebound.  It’s the novella I spoke of earlier.  I plan on squeezing that between the Big Edit/Revision and Survivor.  But we shall see.

It feels pretty damn good to be nearly done.  It’s been a wild, intriguing 4-year ride.  But it’s been fun, and I hit alot of road bumps, but we’re going to make it.  😀

Revision day…or not.

Today I was supposed to start the Pirouette Rewrite One-Pass Revision, but I’ve decided to wait until I move and get settled.  I don’t want to lug around a 500+ manuscript.  And, more importantly, I’m just not ready yet.  The story is simmering in my head, but I’ve been focusing on Survivor, and that’s helped me get the needed distance from it.  I want to feel ready to rip it to shreds.  I’ve already made a list of what needs to be changed, so I have that as a guideline.

I’ve been told different things about distance — 1 month, 6 mos, more than that, even.  I’m not sure I can wait that long.  Pirouette will call to me.  I’m sure it will, when it’s good and ready.  I’m not writing to the market (I hear that’s not a good thing) but I would like there to be a market for it when I start the agent rounds.  But I’m also not going to push it.  I don’t want to send it in when it’s clearly not ready for agent perusal.

Can we just fast forward to the end of the Revision and call it done?

Just kidding.  This will be an interesting experience, being my first real revision.

Survivor is just moving along.  Things have changed a bit, but for the better, I think.  I think I have a shot of getting it done within the next few months (!).  If I work my butt off, that is.  Timeline-wise, we’re just before the climax of the book.  So it’s almost there.  Pantser me, I meandered a bit, but I’m not off course…just taking a detour.

I could wrap it up within the next few days, but that would take away from the power of the story.  There’s a very specific thing that needs to happen to set the MC in a new, healthy direction.  I’m moving towards that.

I also have another idea percolating.  My awesome writing partner emailed it to me.. It’s for Silouette Nocturne Bites, 15k novellas.  Paranormal.  That’s about 40 pages.  And it would be a challenge to write something tighter.  Ideas….one of them is basing it off of a really cool song (by guess who?  Queensryche!) and another is a serial tracker thing.  Yet another is vampires underground.  Don’t know how I’ll choose.  But there’s no deadline, so I’m just going to let this one simmer away.

That’s about it.  No Revision, working hard on Survivor, got some new things to flog the muse with.

Crap and double crap.

I got a plotbunny concerning the Morrighan, an Irish war goddess.  One, her role in Pirouette — in draft 1, she was the leader of the warrior group Alisia becomes part of; in Rewrite she did not exist.  At least not to my knowledge.  Damn, it feels like forever since I worked on it (it’s only been about 3 weeks).  Anyhoo, that will change.  Morrighan will be back in action.

And…..Dagmar, my war-romance plotbunny.  The main character is an Irish goddess.  She could, in theory, be the Morrighan.  Or become the Morrighan if I work it right.  Very interesting.

Yeah.  That’s all I’m saying on that.

Survivor  has been a wild ride so far.  Got 15k new words, go me!  Things have gone a bit off the rails, but I think that’s a good thing.  True to form, I’ve added a character and a huge complication that ties into the antagonist’s plan.

Most of the scenes in my outline for the “endgame” — as I’m calling it — are done. Now, I need to start tying up loose ends, and head towards the very end (the climax) which is going to seriously rock.

It’s been fun, to say the least.
